(INFLATABLE EQUIPMENT) cleaning life raft detergent
MIL-D-16791 **1 part detergent, 3 parts water**
(INFLATABLE EQUIPMENT) cementing life rafts
- even and uniform within 1/2 inch beyond edge. - brush 3, medium, even coats (10 minute dry time between coats) - cure time of 48 hours minimum w/ no internal pressure
(ADS) thread tensile strength
A = 2.75 lb.
AA = 3.9 lb.
B = 5.5 lb.
E = **8.5** lb. (P/N V-T-295)
F = 11.0 lb.
FF = 16.0 lb.
(ADS) size 3 & 6 cord
- actually nylon thread - commonly used in: 1. parachute riser assemblies 2. safety belts 3. restraints 4. tacking & webbing
(ADS) type I parachute cord
- sheath and core type - used to tie survival items **tensile strength = 100 lbs.**
(ADS) type III parachute cord
- sheath and core type - used at suspension lines **tensile strength = 500 lbs. 300 lbs. (gutted)
(ADS) acid/alkaline contamination testing
- full range paper: 0.0 - 14.0 pH - pH safe zone: 5.0 - 9.0 a. 5.0 and below indicates excess acidity b. 9.0 and above indicates excess alkalinity - removing acid/alkaline contamination a. neutralize w/ ammonia, rinse, and air-dry.
(ADS) saltwater contamination
any ADS assembly which has been immersed in saltwater for: 1. a period for more than 24 hours 2. cannot be cleaned within 36 hours after immersion **if not ADS assemblies SHALL be used for cargo drop practice ONLY**
(ADS) fire fighting agent contamination
assemblies exposed to: 1. light water 2. protein foam 3. PKP **SHALL be thoroughly washed within 30 hours after exposure. Assemblies not washed within 30 hours SHALL be considered unserviceable.**
(ADS) biohazard contamination
- spraying contaminated area with Clean-Gear II and washing.
(ADS) canopy cleaning methods
- hand-washing (always attempted 1st) 2. machine-washing
(ADS) hand-washing canopies
- wrap all metal fittings in heavy flannel cloth 2. fresh water (not to exceed 140 F) 3. Agitate(by hand) no to exceed 10 minutes -> remove from tub and drain. 4. repeat cleaning cycle 2 times
(ADS) machine-washing canopies
- front loading tumble-type must have: 1. temperature control 2. gentle wash cycle 3. rinse cycle - wrap all metal fittings in heavy flannel cloth - tie suspension cords every 3 ft.
(ADS) canopy drying methods
- outdoor drying 2. machine drying
(ADS) outdoor drying of canopy
- once nylon is exposed to the sun, the damage is done - dyed fabrics, such as international orange, deteriorates faster than neutral colors fabrics(white) **all units with access to wet lockers SHALL NOT dry ADS assemblies outdoors**
