Communication: Top down ( one way) with management providing reasons for their decisions
Authority: Centralised- High degree of supervision
Decision making: By management with no input from employees
Employee participation: None, as employee follow management’s decisions
Advantages of the persuasive management style
Managers gain some trust and support
More positive response, as employees their feelings are valued
Instruction is clear
Workers more likely to accept negative situations
Appropritate where managers have expertise and experienced
Disadvantages of the persuasive management style
Attitude and Trust still remain negative
communication is still top down
employees remain frustrated because they are denied full participation in the decision making process
Time may be wasted at meetings that justify decisions but don’t seek employee input
