Cluster A PD
Paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal; odd or eccentric
Personality Disorder
Pattern of behavior that deviates from cultural norm and causes dysfunction in some aspect of individual’s life
Paranoid PD
Characterized by distrust and suspiciousness towards others based on the belief that others want to exploit, harm, or deceive the person
Schizoid PD
Primary feature of emotional detachment; does not seek or or enjoy close relationships; indifference to criticism or praise
Schizotypal PD
May resemble less severe form of schizophrenia (i.e. magical thinking, derealization, perceptual distortions)
Cluster B PD
Antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcissistic; dramatic, emotional, erratic; problems with impulse control & interpersonal relationships
Antisocial PD
Consistent disregard for others through exploitation or repeated unlawful acts; shows no remorse for actions
Borderline PD
Marked instability in emotion regulation, interpersonal relationships, impulsivity, identity or self-image distortions and unstable mood
Splitting
Primary defense or coping style for persons with borderline PD; inability to incorporate positive and negative aspects of oneself or others into a whole image
Histrionic PD
Marked by emotional, attention-seeking behavior in which person needs to be center of attention
Narcissistic PD
Primary feature of arrogance with a grandiose view of self-importance; feels self-entitled and lacks empathy; underneath the surface, feel intense shame & fear of abandonment
Cluster C PD
Avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive; patterns of anxious and fearful behaviors, social shyness, hypersensitivity, need for orderliness, and relationship dependency
Avoidant PD
Central characteristics of extreme sensitivity to rejection & robust avoidance of interpersonal situations; strongly desires close interpersonal relationships, but avoids them
Dependent PD
Pattern of establishing relationships in which they are submissive, passive, self-doubting, and avoid self-responsibility
Obsessive-Compulsive PD
Key characteristic of perfectionism with a focus on orderliness & control; individual becomes preoccupied with details & roll
