Personality
A person’s unique pattern of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that exist over time and situations
Psychoanalysis
The term used to describe Sigmund Freud’s theory of personality and treatment.
Pre conscious
Thoughts that are unconscious at the particular moment, but are not repressed - therefore making the thoughts available for recall later.
Similar to Working Memory.
(think of the skill needed to ride a bike… not in everyday consciousness, but available when needed)
How were CARL JUNG’s ideas about personality similar to S. Freud, and how were they different?
Similarity
CARL JUNG believed an ID (personal unconsiousness)existed, like S. Freud.
Difference
Carl Jung believed in a COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUSNESS.
Here, archetypes exist: suppressed knowledge and experiences we share as a species.
What are the types of ARCHITYPES Carl Jung thought existed?
- anima / animus
Anima = the female image in the male psyche
Animus = the male image in the female psyche - Persona
How others know you / the “face” you put on for others in public.
