Conditioning and Learning - Chapter 7 - Vocabulary Flashcards
Learning
Relatively permanent change in behavior due to reinforcement.
Rienforcement
Any event that increases the chances of a response happening again.
- What is OPERANT CONDITIONING?
2. Who studied operant conditioning?
- OPERANT CONDITIONING:
a response is made, followed by reinforcement or punishment which determines if behavior happens again. - B.F. Skinner
Operant conditioning came from work regarding superstition.
Negative Reinforcement
A stimulus that, when removed after a response, strengthens a response.
Positive Response
A stimulus that, when presented after a response, strengthens a response.
Punishment
Any event following a response that decreases the chance of the behavior following again
Aquisition
In CLASSICAL CONDITIONING:
The initial stage when one links a neutral stimulus to an unconditioned stimulus so that the neutral stimulus begins triggering the conditioned response.
In OPERANT CONDITIONING
the strengthening of a reinforced response.
Extinction
IN CLASSICAL CONDITIONING:
the diminishing of a conditioned response;
happens after an unconditioned stimulus isn’t followed by a conditioned stimulus.
In OPERANT CONDITIONING
when a response is no longer reinforced.
Spontaneous Recovery
The reappearance, after a pause, of an extinguished conditioned response.
