an individuals unique constellation of psychological traits - values, interests, attitudes, worldview, cognitive style - that is relatively stable and enduring over time

the measurement and evaluation of psychological traits, states, values, interests, attitudes, worldview, cognitive style and related individual characteristics
what are the uses of personality assessment?
- basic research
- clinical/counselling

what is involved in projective methods of assessing personality?
a judgement of the personality is made according to the persons ability to impose some structure on the unstructured stimuli
what does the projective hypothesis state?
an individual supplies structure to unstructured stimuli in a manner consistent with their underlying personality
what are the types of projective tests?
- thematic apperception
- word association
- sentence completion
- inkblots
what are the two types of objective measures?
type or trait based
what type of measure is best?
trait based (complex but reliable)
should the MBTI be used for recruitment?
does not have strong predictive validity in relation to workplace performance, therefore it should not be administered as a recruitment tool, instead use big 5
