What are the 5 tasks of person centred care in a patient consultation?
Calgary Cambridge Guide:
- Commence consultation: establish initial rapport and supportive environment
- Gather informaton: explore problems, pt’s perspective and opinions, ensure information is correct and mutually understood.
- Physical examination:
- Explanation and planning: Involve patient in decision making, provide appropriate type and amount of information
- Closing consultation: Confirm established plan of care, maximise patient adherence and health outcomes, encourage pt to feel part of collaborative proess
What ethical principles does person-centred care address?
Respect
- Regard for the feelings, wishes and rights of the individual patient
Autonomy:
- The patient’s right to be treated as they wish to be
Dignity:
- Care that supports and promotes a person’s self respect
Care:
- Beneficence, best interests (treat the condition, care for the person)
