Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis

what is Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis
bacteria that start growing in abdominal lining
from liver disease, like cirrhosis, kidney disease
what is Secondary peritonitis
hole in an organ, bacteria from gastrointestinal tract enter peritoneal cavity
(or cause is other health conditions)
causes peritonitis
- Infectious causes
e.g. a bacteria - Chemical causes
e.g. a tumor or cyst that ruptures in your abdomen can cause
chemical peritonitis
symptoms peritonitis
o Belly pain or tenderness
o Bloating or a feeling of fullness in the abdomen
o Fever
o Upset stomach and vomiting
o Loss of appetite
o Diarrhea
o Reduced urine
o Thirst
o Not able to pass stool or gas
o Feeling tired
o Confusion
treatment peritonitis
get treated fast = life-threatening
Intravenous antibiotics: to clear out the infection and keeping it
from spreading
- Surgery: remove the infected tissue
- Other treatments:
o Pain medication
o Oxygen
o In some cases, a blood transfusion
complications peritonitis
sepsis
dehydration
constipation, urine retention
Outlook peritonitis
depends (cause/type and how quickly it is treated)
fast and effective treatment = good
can cause lasting organ damage
