  • sudden onset of severe abdo pain- then collapse + septic shock, fever
  • rigidity helps pain- guarding
  • ascites
  • Nausea and vomiting
    -diarrhoea

A

inflammation presses only viscerally- poorer sensation of pain

  • more inflamed
    -more pressing on parietal
    -better localised sensation

how is peritonitis diagnosed?

A
  1. Ascitic tap- shows neutrophilia
  2. cultures- shows causative organism
  3. High ESR and HIGH CRP
  4. exclude pregnancy
  5. chest x ray- shows air under diaphragm
