Peripheral Nervous System Flashcards
Define Somatic
Of the body. Anything to do with gross musculature, pain, and temperature.
Homeostasis in the confines of the autonomic system means what?
Always in balance of fight/flight and rest/digest.
Are we able to consciously control our autonomic nervous system?
No.
What are the two functions of the autonomic nervous system?
Regulate body temperature. Coordinate cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, excretory, and reproductive functions.
The Peripheral Nervous System has two parts, what are they?
Motor Sensory
What are the directional terms for the Motor and Sensory systems?
Motor–Efferent Sensory–Afferent
Motor Neurons are what type of polarity and have how many axons?
Multi-polar One axon

Define Afferent

What is a Ganglion
A ganglion is a bundle of neurons in the PNS.
The motor system of the PNS has what two parts?
Somatic (Voluntary) Visceral (Involuntary)(Autonomic Nervous System)
The Visceral system is divided into what two parts?
Sympathetic (Thoacolumbar) Parasympathetic (Craniosacral)
Describe a multi-polar Motor neuron
Direction of signal?
Nucleus is found where?
Travels efferent to the organ.
Innervates tissue
Nucleus is in the anterior horn of grey matter in spinal cord.
Describe pseudounipolar sensory neuron
Signal direction?
Signal v Nucleus?
Nucleus is found where?
Signal bypasses the nucleus to reach CNS fast and then synapse.
Travels Afferent to stimulus.
Nucleus is found in the PNS in Dorsal Root Ganglions.
What does the Nucleus of the pseudounipolar neuron do for the cell?
Feeds neurotransmitters to the axon.
