What is periodisation
Used to divide an athletes training in order to help them reach their peak just prior to competition

What are the three periods?
- Preparation
- Competition

What happens in the preparation phase
•General conditioning

Long term performance goal
-1-4 years
-Olympic games, masters, Wimbledon
What is a mesocycle
Short term goals within the macrocycle
-2-8 weeks
-focusing on strength, power, speed and VO2 max
What is a microcycle
Division of a mesocycle into weeks
-represents 1 week of training
-what the performer does from Monday to Sunday including rest days
What is a training unit

What is double periodisation
Preparing an athlete to peak on more that one occasion- up to four times a year
