Pericardial Disease - Constrictive Pericarditis Flashcards
1
Q
What is Constrictive Pericarditis?
A
The upper limit of cardiac volume is constrained by the rigid pericardium, preventing normal cardiac filling, restricting ventricular volume, SV and CO.
2
Q
Pathophysiology of Constrictive Pericarditis.
A
Scarring and Loss of Elasticity of the Pericardial Sac.
3
Q
Aetiology of Constrictive Pericarditis (2).
A
- Any Cause of Pericarditis.
- Especially TB.
4
Q
Clinical Presentation of Constrictive Pericarditis (4).
A
- Dyspnoea.
- RHF - Elevated JVP (Prominent X and Y Descent), Ascites, Oedema, Hepatomegaly.
- Pericardial Knock - Loud S3.
- Kussmaul’s Sign.
5
Q
What is Kussmaul’s Sign?
A
Paradoxical rise in JVP with inspiration.
6
Q
What can a CXR show in Constrictive Pericarditis?
A
Pericardial calcification.
