What is Takotsubu Cardiomyopathy?

A

A type of non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy, associated with a transient apical ballooning of the myocardium (octopus-trap in Japanese).

Pathophysiology of Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy.

A

Apical Ballooning :

  1. Severe Hypokinesis of Mid and Apical Segments & Preservation of Activity of Basal Segments.
  2. Apex (Bottom) of Heart does not contract - the base (top) continues to contract.
