The selection process shall include the following: [32.1.1]
a. Application;
b. Written exam;
c. Physical agility test;
d. Initial background check;
e. Polygraph exam;
f. Complete background check;
g. Panel interview (if needed);
x. Administrative review
h. Psychological test; and
i. Medical examination and drug testing.
Component Validity, Utility, and Adverse Impact
- The process shall contain components that are valid and can be identified as a significant part of the job. No component that is not related to job function shall be utilized in the selection process. [32.1.2]
- The validity of the selection process, as a whole or individual components of the selection process, shall be determined in one or more of the following ways:
a. Criteria and related validation;
b. Construct validation; and
c. Content validation.
Candidates not eligible after formal application shall be informed in writing by the City Personnel Office or the Police Recruiting Unit within _______ days of such decision and the reason the candidate was found to be not eligible.

Candidates excluded from eligibility as probationary officers on the basis of a test, examination, interview, or investigation shall be informed by the City Personnel Office or the Police Recruiting Unit, in writing, citing the specific reason. Such notification shall be made within ________ of the decision.

The background investigation includes, but is not limited to: [32.2.1a,b,c]
a. Employment checks;
b. Reference checks;
c. Review and investigation of the Additional Information Questionnaire;
d. High School and College transcripts;
e. N.C.I.C. criminal history and driving history;
f. Neighborhood interviews;
g. Credit history checks;
h. Driving history;
i. Narrative background summary for each applicant;
j. Polygraph examination; and
k. Verification of at least three (3) personal references.
All police personnel employed shall serve a probationary period of ____________ as provided by the Chattanooga City Code Section 2-144. Before the end of the probationary period, the supervisor shall indicate the performance of the officer in writing, utilizing the appropriate form.
