People hired temporarily to do a specific job and are not employees of the company.

Understand the company and its products deeply. Very knowledgeable.
Communication between team members is usually excellent.
Easier to manage.
Fewer legal problems.
In-House Design Teams - Drawbacks
More expensive than sub-contractors.
Can’t easily adapt if the company suddenly wins or loses business.
Creativity can become staid or stale.
Sub-Contracted Design Teams - Benefits
Can be hired quickly in response to an increase in orders.
Cheaper than an in-house team.
Only paid for the duration that they work on a project.
Can be very specialised.
