Design Briefs Flashcards
What is a Design Brief?
A design brief is the starting point of a design project, usually supplied by the client.
Open Design Brief
Gives general guidelines and allows for a wide range of creative freedom and possible outcomes.
Closed Design Brief
Gives specific and detailed requirements. The client has more control over the design process. Closed briefs limit the number of possible outcomes.
Advantages of an Open Brief
More opportunity for creativity, innovation, diversification.
More control to the designer.
Risk of straying from the client’s requirements.
Harder to interpret and understand than closed briefs.
Advantages of a Closed Brief
Very specific and exact, misunderstandings are less likely to happen.
Gives the client greater control over the project.
The final project solution is more predictable.
Can stifle innovation and creativity.
