Explain why people work?

Explain why do we need to motivate workers?
Well-motivated workers are highly productive,efficient and less absent leading to increased efficiency and output
Explain the motivation theories
(i)F.W.Taylor believed workers were motivated by personal gains such as money and proposed a piece-rate system where worker were paid for output. However this theory is no entirely true as other motivator are more important in the modern workplace
(ii)Abraham Maslow’s hierachy of needs demonstrates that employees are motivated by each level,allowing managers to identify and take necessary action to advance their worker

Limation of this theory-does not apply to every worker

Explain the motivating factors
(i)wages-paid weekly,can be calculated in two ways:
-Time rate:pay based on number of hours worked
-Piece rate:pay based on number of output produced
(ii)salary:paid monthly/annually
(iii)Commission:paid to sales person based on a person based on percentage of sales they made
Explain the non-financial motivators
(i)Fringe benefits (Non financial rewards)
-company vehicle/car
-Free health care
-Children’s education fee paid for
(ii)Job satisfaction
(iii)job rotation:involves workers around jobs,performing specific tasks for a limited time and then changing job again.
