Pelvis, Pelvic Girdle + Hip Flashcards
What are the functions of the pelvic girdle?
weight bearing in standing and sitting; gait; visceral functions of the pelvic girdle as part of the pelvis
What does the pelvis consist of?
pelvic girdle + sacrum
What does the pelvic girdle consist of?
2x hip bones
What are the sacroiliac joint ligamentous support?
anterior sacroiliac ligament, posterior sacroiliac ligament, interosseous sacroiliac ligament, sacrospinous ligament, sacrotuberous ligament
What is sacral nutation?
anterior tilt of sacrum relative to ilium
What is counternutation?
opposite to sacral nutation
What are the ligaments of the pubic symphysis?
superior and inferior pubic ligaments
What is the structural and functional classification of the hip (coxal) joint?
synovial ball and socket, multiaxial diarthrosis
What is the orientation of the acetabulum?
anterior, lateral, inferior
What is the orientation of the lunate surface of the acetabulum?
anterior, superior, posterior
What is the weight bearing and non-weight bearing surface of the acetabulum?
weight bearing- lunate surface; non-weight bearing- acetabular fossa
What is coxa vara?
<125 degrees; exposes neck of femur to an increasing bending moment
What is coxa valga?
> 125 degrees; femur is more alligned with the femur; more compressive force; normal at birth
In what hip position is all hip joint ligaments taut?
extension
What are the hip joint ligaments?
iliofemoral ligament (anterior), ischiofemoral ligament (posterior) and pubofemoral ligament (from superior pubic ramus)
