Pelvic veins Flashcards
True or false?
All of the pelvic veins follow the course of the pelvic arteries?
False!
They don’t follow the iliolumbar and umbilical arteries.
What are the divisions of the venous plexus?
The internal and external division
The internal is located between the internal anal sphincter and the epithelial lining of the anus while the external is located under the subcutaneous aspect of the external anal sphincter
What does the deep dorsal vein pass through?
It goes into the pelvic cavity from the dorsal side of the penis through the hole made from the arcuate (inferior) pubic ligament and the anterior margin of the perineal membrane and joins the prostatic plexus of veins.
What does the superficial dorsal vein join?
They drain to external pudendal veins
Where does the median sacral vein join to?
The left common iliac vein or the inferior vena cava.
Where does the ovarian vein join to?
The renal vein on the left and the inferior vena cava on the right.
What are complications that may occur in the rectal plexus? Explain the pathophysiology of hemorrhoids!
Hemorrhoids, they are caused by straining during defecation causing lower venous returns an therefore dilation of the anal canal
