Pelvic vascularizaton Flashcards
What are the divisions of the internal iliac artery?
Anterior and posterior division.
What does the posterior division of the internal iliac artery?
The iliolumbar artery, the lateral sacral artery, and the superior gluteal artery
What is the flow of the iliolumbar artery?
It goes superolaterally to exit the pelvic inlet, the iliac branch goes laterally onto the iliac fossa while the lumbar branch goes posteriorly
What is the flow of the lateral sacral artery?
Courses inferiorly and medially to the lateral of the sacrum to enter the anterior foramina,
What is the flow of the superior gluteal artery?
It goes between the lumbosacral trunk and S1 to enter the superior of the piriformis muscle.
What is the second artery of the anterior division and the course that it takes?
The obturator artery passes through the obturator canal and branches into an anterior and posterior compartment which encircles and anastomoses.
What is the first artery of the anterior division and its branches?
The umbilical branch which branches into the superior vesicular artery.
What does the vesicular artery do?
The vesicular artery vascularizes the bladder, prostate, vas deferens, and the ureter.
What is the third branch of the anterior internal iliac branch of the artery?
The inferior vesicular or vaginal artery.
What is the 4th branch of the anterior internal iliac branch of the artery?
The uterine artery/artery to ductus deferens.
What is the 5th branch of the anterior internal iliac branch of the artery?
The middle rectal artery.
What is the 6th branch of the anterior internal iliac branch of the artery?
The inferior gluteal artery.
What is the 7th branch of the anterior internal iliac branch of the artery?
The internal pudendal artery.
What is the course of the 6th and 7th anterior internal iliac branch of the artery?
Through the greater sciatic foramen between the infrapirimormis and the ischiococcygeus.
