pelvic organs Flashcards
what are the relations of the sigmoid colon in females?
anteriorly: vagina, uterus
posteriorly: rectum, sacrum, lower coils of ileum
what are the relations of the sigmoid colon in males?
anteriorly: urinary bladder
posteriorly: sacrum, rectum, lower coils of ileum
what is the course of lymph drainage of the sigmoid colon?
first into the nodes of the sigmoid arteries
then to the inferior mesenteric nodes
what part of the levator ani m. pulls the rectum forward producing the anorectal angle?
puborectalis
what are the relations of the rectum in the male?
posterior: sacrum, coccyx, piriformis, levator ani, sympathetic trunk
anterior: sigmoid colon, ileum, bladder
what are the relations of the rectum in the female?
Posterior: sacrum, coccyx, piriformis, levator ani, sacral plexus, sympathetic trunk
Anterior: sigmoid colon, ileum, vagina, uterus
what holds the neck of the bladder in place?
puboprastic ligaments (MALES) pubovesical ligaments (FEMALES)
which sphincter muscle of the bladder is INVOLUNTARY?
sphincter vesicae
what important crossings does the ureter make in MALES?
the bifurcation of the common iliac artery
the vas deferens
what important crossings does the ureter make in FEMALES?
the bifurcation of the common iliac artery
beneath the broad ligament
the uterine artery
what is the urinary sphincter you CAN control?
urethral sphincter
seminal vesicles produce what?
seminal fluid
what do the ejaculatory ducts do?
drain seminal fluid from the seminal vesicles into the urethra
what is the lymphatic drainage of the seminal vesicle?
the internal iliac nodes
what is the main function of the prostate?
produce seminal fluid
what is the lymph drainage of the prostate?
internal iliac nodes
what is the nerve supply of the prostate?
inferior hypogastric plexus
sympathetics (during ejaculation)
what is unique about the ovarian vein drainage?
on right side- drains into IVC
on left side- drains into renal vein
what is the lymph drainage of the ovary?
follow the ovarian artery
drain into para-aortic nodes at L1 (same as Fallopian tubes)
what are the 4 parts of the Fallopian tube?
infundibulum
ampulla
isthmus
intramural part
where does lymph from the fundus of the uterus go?
follows ovarian artery and drains into pre-aortic nodes at L1
where does lymph from the body + cervix go?
external and internal iliac nodes
where does some excess lymph from the uterus go?
follows the round ligament through the inguinal canal and drains into the superficial inguinal lymph nodes
what is the nerve supply of the uterus?
comes from the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves from branches of the inferior hypogastric plexus
