Q

Function of sympathetics in pelvis

A

Vasoconstriction

Inhibit peristalsis of rectum

Constrict involuntary sphincters (internal anal, internal urethral)

Normal tone of internal sphincters

Stimulates contraction of internal genital organs (ejaculation)

17
Q

Function of parasympathetics in pelvis

A

Increase peristalsis (contraction of rectum)

Inhibits constriction of involuntary sphincters

Stimulates contraction of detrussor muscle (bladder)

Erection

18
Q

Superior hypogastric plexus composition

A

Pre- & Post-ganglionic sympathetics (mostly pre)

Visceral afferents

No parasympathetics

19
Q

Inferior hypogastric plexuses composition

A

Pre- and Post-ganglionic sympathetics (mostly post)

Pre-ganglionic parasympathetics

Visceral afferents

20
Q

Plexuses of the lesser pelvis in males and females:

A

Males: prostatic, vesical, rectal

Female: vesical, uterovaginal, rectal

21
Q

Components of plexuses in the lesser pelvis

A

Post-ganglionic sympathetics

Pre-ganglionic parasympathetics

Visceral afferents

22
Q

Pelvic splanchnics supply:

A

Supply all pelvic viscera

Supply erectile tissue of perineum

Supply abdominal viscera supplied by IMA

23
Q

Visceral pain referred to: (covered in peritoneum and subperitoneal)

A

Covered in peritoneum: Travel retrograde with sympathetics retrograde to T11-L1

Subperitoneal: Travel retrograde with parasympathetics to dorsal root ganglia S2,3,4

24
Q

Visceral reflex travels:

A

Retrograde with parasympathetics to dorsal root ganglia S2,3,4

25
Q

Inferior and superior division of vaginal innervation

A

Inferior 1/4 is somatic, superior 3/4 is visceral

26
Q

Plexus of superior vagina and uterus

A

Uterovaginal plexus
