Adenomyosis
What swabs do you take for PID?
High vaginal and endocervical
What are the bacteria that cause PID?
Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Mycoplasma genitalium
Trichomonas vaginalis
What is Fitz-Hugh-Curtis?
Rare complicated of chlamydia PID causing adhesions between liver and diaphragm
How is chlamydia screened for?
Annual screening for under 25s
How is chlamydia treated?
1g of azithromycin stat, repeat in 1 week if symptomatic
Which infection do you worry about when a mirena is present?
Actinomyosis
What is the most common cause of post coital bleeding?
Ectropian
But must exclude infections and malignancy
How does the abx treatment of PID differ between sexually and non-sexually required PID?
Sexually
- Ceftriaxone
- Metronidazole
- Azithromycin
Non-sexually
- Augmentin
- Azithromycin
- +/- Doxycyclin
When do you treat bacterial vaginosis and what with?
If pregnant, symptomatic, before gynaecological procedure
Metronidazole oral or gel or clindamycin gel
