What are some of the features of non-specific abdominal pain ?
Short duration. Central. Constant. No GIT disturbance. No temp.
What are some of the symptoms of pyloric stenosis ?
Non-bilious vomiting “projectile”
Weight loss
How do you diagnose pyloric stenosis ?
Capillary gas:
Alkalosis
Hypochloraemia
Hypokalaemia
How do you treat/manage pyloric stenosis?
Test feed.
IV Fluid
US
Periumbilical pylormyotomy
How does malrotation present ?
3 day old baby with bile vomiting “fairy liquid” green.
How do you diagnose Malrotation and treat it ?
Upper GI contrast study ASAP
Laparotomy ASAP
What is Intussusception?
Intussusception is a condition in which one segment of intestine “telescopes” inside of another, causing an intestinal obstruction (blockage).
How would a baby with Intussusception present ?
6-12 months
3 day hx of viral illness then intermittent colic.
Bilious vomiting
Bloody PR mucous
How do you investigate and manage Intussusception ?
USS Abdomen “target sign”
Pneumostatic reduction and laparotomy
What is Gastroschisis ?
Abdominal wall defect
What is Exophalos ?
Umbilical defect with covered viscera with associated anomalies.
