How does sepsis/febrile neutropenia present ?
Fever
Rigors
Drowsiness
Shock
What are some of the early warning signs of raised ICP ?
Early morning headache/vomitting.
Tense fontanelle.
Increasing HC.
What are some of the late signs of raised ICP ?
Constant headache Papiloedema Diplopia Loss of upgaze Neck stiffness Reduced GCS
How do you manage raised ICP ?
Dexamethasnone - Reduces oedema and increases CSF flow.
Neurosurgery - Urgent CSF diversion i.e. Ventriculostomy
EVD
VP Shunt
What signs and symptoms would be present in a spinal cord compression ?
Weakness
Pain
Sensory
Sphincter Disturbance
How do you manage spinal cord compression ?
Urgent MRI
Start dexamethasone urgently.
Definitive treatment with chemotherapy
How do those with SVC syndrome present ?
Oedema
Cyanosis
Distended veins
Reduced GCS
