- vesicular sounds inspiration is longer than expiration

- discontinuous sounds
- resembling the sound produced by rubbing strands of hair together in front of the ear or by pulling apart strips of velcro

describe the types of crackles
A
- course crackles = loud low pitched and fewer in number
- fine crackles = soft, higher pitched and greater in number

wheezes
A
- high pitched continuous musical sound mostly on expiration
- sitting up as high as they can (tripod position). Try to open up their chest to get more air

stridor
A
- loud, musical sound of definite and constant pitch that indicates upper airway obstruction confined to inspiration over the neck

A
- loud grating or rubbing sounds predominantly during expiration
