lung anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
Where do you listen to the middle lobe?
A
4th intercostal space, midclavicular line
2
Q
describe the lower limits of the lung/visceral
A
- Inferior limit on the lung along the mid clavicular line = 6th rib
- inferior limit of the lung along mid axillary line = 8th rib
- inferior limit of the lung along paravertebral line = 10th
3
Q
describe the lower limits of parietal
A
- lower limits of parietal along midclavicular line = 8th rib
- lower limits of parietal along midaxillary line = 10th rib
- lower limits of parietal along paravertebral line = 12th rib
4
Q
describe thoracentesis
A
- used to remove fluid occupying the pleural cavity compressing the lung
5
Q
describe the layers of the trachea
A
- Resp epithelium
- basal lamina
- lamina propria
- submucosa glands
- perichondrium
- hyaline cart
6
Q
modifications of wall in asthma
A
- increase :
–> mucus
–> ithickness of basal lamina
–> thickenss of lamina propria due to edema and emigration of inflammatory cells
–> thickness of muscularis
–> glands in submucosa
7
Q
Describe reid index
A
- Reid index = bc/ad
- Normal = < .4
- Chronic bronchitis >.5
8
Q
what makes up a bronchiole
A
- <1mm
- Lack cartilage
- Lack submocosa
- goblet cells normally in large bronchiole
9
Q
what cells are found in alveoli
A
- type i pneumocytes = attenuated simple squamous cells (facilitates gase exchange)
- type II pneumocytes = involved in surfactant production (divide to replace type I and Type II pneumocytes)
- alveolar macrophages
