Pattern Flashcards
When you’re circling the airport 2 nm out, what’s an easy way to know when you’re ready to turn onto entry heading?
Your wing will line up with the entry heading. Then you and turn 90deg and you’re there.
Segmented circle shows what?
Location of base and final
How do you find your relative position to the airport that you need to be in order to enter pattern?
Reciprocal (+ or - 180 degrees) from the entry heading. So if entry heading is 180deg, you need to be 270 deg (west) of the airport.
Standard entry angle to traffic pattern if you’re on the opposite of the side of the runway
Announce your intentions, cross midfield, . Then you can either “cut the corner” and turn onto downwind, or turn in a loop so you can join downwind earlier at the normal entrance spot (preferred)
How do you choose a runway at a nontowered airport?
See what others are doing on the CTAF. If nobody else is there, choose the runway favored by the wind
How do you find out the pattern direction at a nontowered airport?
Listen on the CTAF. Look at the segmented circle. Also check foreflight/chart supplement. See the breakdown of each specific runway. If it doesn’t say “RP” you should assume LP.
ATC wants you to make a short approach but you need more time. What should you say?
“can you give me a vector to be #2 for the airport?”
