Define “Autonomy”
A self rule which involves acting with understanding, free from control of others and in accordance with one’s values
How can autonomy be a negative obligation?
Whereby you do not interfere with the decision making of patient

How can autonomy be a positive obligation?
Helping patients by providing information or helping them find / restore their capacity to make informed decisions themselves

What are the difficulties of assessing best interests?
- Future can be uncertain
- Some patients are not able to communicate
- Difficulties when weighing conflicting goods
