What does HIPAA stand for?
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
What are the main purposes of HIPAA?
-Rules and regulations regarding transmittal and use of personal health info
-Strict penalties for disclosing or accessing info improperly
What is another name for advanced directive?
Living will
What is the purpose of an advanced directive?
-Set of instructions regarding healthcare and life if a person becomes incapacitated
-Names medical power of attorney
-Informed consent
Who is the POA for a child? Who is the default if an adult doesn’t have one?
-Parent
-Default to spouse
What does nosocomial mean? What is the #1 source for this type of infection? What needs to be trimmed short and not artificial to avoid accumulation of bacteria?

What disease can you not use alcohol rubs for?
-C. Diff (bacterium that causes diarrhea and colitis)
What diseases require contact isolation?
-MRSA and VRE
-MRSA: staph infection that’s resistant to most antibiotics
-VRE: bacteria infection that’s resistant to vancomycin antibiotic
Describe a contact isolation room
Single room or room w/ someone else w/ same infectious agent
Describe PPE for contact isolation
Gown and gloves (never re-use)
What diseases involve airborne precautions?
Tb or chicken pox
Describe a TB patient’s room
-Negative air pressure room
-Ante room then patient’s room (1st door closed before opening 2nd door; PPE applied in anteroom after 1st door is closed)
What is the order of donning and doffing PPE for airborne isolation room?
-Donning: gel, PPE, enter ante room, enter pt’s room
-Doffing: enter ante room, take PPE off, go outside, gel
What PPE is required for airborne precaution?
N-95 mask, gown, gloves
What diseases are associated with droplet precautions?
-Flu/Influenza & COVID
-Airborne+ or contact+
