Q

LPS is the major viralence factor in septic shock. What is the mechanism?

A

LPS activates macrophages which release TNF-a, IL-1 and IL-6. Leads to tissue damage. Daamge to the endothelium from brady kinin- induced vasodilation leads to shock. Coagulation (DIC) is mediated through activation of the hageman factor.
