Parts of cell Flashcards
what are the 2 types of cells
eukaryotic and prokaryotic
what is an animal cells
eukaryote
has a nucleus, organelles, cytoskeleton, many linear chromosomes and intron DNA
What are bacterial cells
procaryote
has no nucleus, organelles, cytoskeleton, single circle chromosome and intronless DNA
What are viruses
obligate intracellular parasites that only reproduce in host cells as they don’t have cellular functions for growth and repair
what is a capsid
contains vital info e.g DNA/RNA
what does the envelope store
stores cps’s in a further layer of proteins
what are organelles
membrane bound structures
what is the cytoskeleton
internal support frame
what are examples of organelles
nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplast (double membrane)
ER (can be rough or smooth)
Golgi apparatus, lysosomes
what are the three protein filaments
actin red
microtubules green
intermediate blue
what is the chloroplast
captures energy from light, site of photosynthesis, contains own DNA, reproduces by splitting in 2
what is the mitochondria
generates energy from food, surrounded by a double membrane, site of cell respiration
what is the Golgi apparatus
sort, modify and package lipids and proteins and interacts with ER
What is ER
Synthesis of new membranes and proteins
what is the nucleus
store and utilise DNA, surrounded by double membrane, contains nuclei
