Microscopes Flashcards
what is a light microscope also called
compound microscope
what does the condenser do
focus light
what does the eyepiece and objective do
collect and magnify light
what is spherical aberration
rays are bent so rays focus in different points- issues with focusing
what is chromatic aberration
wavelegths are bent different- issues with colour
what is resolution
distance between 2 points you see completely- better resolution- better picture
what are staining techniques
allows cells and cell components to be visualised- haemotoxylin, eosin, antibodies can target one part of the body e.g insulin
what passes in light microscopes
1 visible light
what passes in fluorescent microscopy
only 1 colour
what is a transmission electron microscope
uses streams of electrons (photons) and they carry charge. Uses magnets as lenses
what is scanning electron microscopy
beam of electrons is focused on a sample and scattered electrons are collected by a detector and a beam deflector gives a 3D effect
what are the 2 types of microscopy
light and electron
