- for there is not anything more shameless than [one’s] hateful belly,

ἔπλετο, ἥ τ᾽ ἐκέλευσεν ἕο μνήσασθαι ἀνάγκῃ
A
- which bids [one] by necessity to remember itself,

καὶ μάλα τειρόμενον καὶ ἐνὶ φρεσὶ πένθος ἔχοντα,
A
- even though he is both very exhausted and has grief in his heart

ὡς καὶ ἐγὼ πένθος μὲν ἔχω φρεσίν, ἡ δὲ μάλ᾽ αἰεὶ
A
- as I too have grief in my heart, but absolutely always does [my belly]

ἐσθέμεναι κέλεται καὶ πινέμεν, ἐκ δέ με πάντων
A
- bid [me] eat and drink, and …

ληθάνει ὅσσ᾽ ἔπαθον, καὶ ἐνιπλησθῆναι ἀνώγει.
A
- makes me forget all the many things that I suffered, and commands that it be filled.

ὑμεῖς δ᾽ ὀτρύνεσθε ἅμ᾽ ἠοῖ φαινομένηφιν,
A
- But make haste along with the dawn when it appears [i.e. at sunrise]

ὥς κ᾽ ἐμὲ τὸν δύστηνον ἐμῆς ἐπιβήσετε πάτρης
A
- that you may set me, the miserable one, on my fatherland

καί περ πολλὰ παθόντα: ἰδόντα με καὶ λίποι αἰὼν
A
- despite having suffered many things: may life leave me too after I have seen

κτῆσιν ἐμήν, δμῶάς τε καὶ ὑψερεφὲς μέγα δῶμα.
A
- my possessions, [my] slaves and [my] big great-roofed house.
