- and they feast among us, sitting just where we [sit].

- And then even if some lone traveller on his way meets them,

- they do not hide away at all, since we are near kin to them,

- just as the Cyclopes and the wild tribes of the Giants.

- Alcinous, let something else be a concern for your mind: for I am not

ἀθανάτοισιν ἔοικα, τοὶ οὐρανὸν εὐρὺν ἔχουσιν,
A
- like the immortals, those who hold broad heaven,

οὐ δέμας οὐδὲ φυήν, ἀλλὰ θνητοῖσι βροτοῖσιν.
A
- neither in stature nor in form, but [like] mortal men.

οὕς τινας ὑμεῖς ἴστε μάλιστ᾽ ὀχέοντας ὀιζὺν
A
- Whoever you know of men who bear suffering most of all

ἀνθρώπων, τοῖσίν κεν ἐν ἄλγεσιν ἰσωσαίμην.
A
- to them might I liken myself in sorrow.
