Part 1 acid base disorder Flashcards
Normal value of pH is what?
7.35-7.45
SaO2 is what normal level?
95%
PCO2 is what normal level?
35-45
HCO3- is what normal level?
22-26
Analysis of arterial blood gas
What is the ABG? pH/PaCO2/PaO2/HCO3-
If pH is less than 7.35 pt is in acidemia
If pH is greater than 7.45 its in alkalemia
Even if pH is within normal range could be representing a true normal and there is no acid base imbalance or there could acid base imbalance but its in a compensated state meaning the two organ systems are working together
If pH is 7.2 how can you make a blood pH 7.2 so your either retaining more of the CO2 which is respiratory acidosis or kidney is losing bicarbonate so its metabolic acidosis
If body is gaining acidic substance meaning gaining CO2 or losing the basic substance bicarbonate then who regulates CO2? the lungs
If you see increased CO2 thats what?
respiratory acidosis
If CO2 is normal but you see decreased bicarbonate who regulate bicarbonate?
the kidneys so its called metabolic acidosis
If pH is 7.6 then pt is in alkalosis how do you make pH more basic? either by decrease level of PCO2 or you have increase level of the basic substance bicarbonate
Who regulates CO2?
respiratory the lungs
If there is an increased in bicarbonate its metabolic alkalosis
If there is a decreased in carbon dioxide then its respiratory alkalosis
If pt is in respiratory acidosis body won’t allow that to happen so body is trying to compensate
If disorder is respiratory who is going to counteract the effect?
the kidneys
When analyze ABG you look at pH first, second based on low pH you can look at CO2 and bicarbonate to decide whether its respiratory or metabolic
