Paraphilic Disorders in General
DSM-5- Criteria
- Recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors that involve ________.
- Patterns must last > 6 months
- Significant Distress/Impairment (or for some of them simply acting on these urges/fantasies is enough to warrant a diagnosis)
Fetishistic Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving inanimate objects or part of the body not typically found erotic (e.g., feet) to obtain sexual gratification
Transvestic Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving cross-dressing
Voyeuristic Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving the observation of unsuspecting person who are undressing or engaged in sexual activity – aka “peeping toms”
Exhibitionistic Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving exposure of one’s genitals to others in inappropriate circumstances and w/o consent – aka “flasher”
Sexual Sadism Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving the infliction of psychological or physical pain on another individual
Sexual Masochism Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving the real act of being humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer.
Frotteuristic Disorder
Fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving touching or rubbing against a nonconsenting person
Pedophilic Disorder
Recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies/urges/behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally aged ≤13) – lasting > 6 months
Gender Dysphoria
Characterized by a strong and persistent cross-gender identification and gender dysphoria (discomfort about one’s biological sex or sense of gender role)
