Q

Advantages of cones
3) administration of small doses is possible with these medicated cones as they are small in size

A

1) as they r hard they absorb very small quantity of liquid medicine . So we can DISPENSE small quantity of dispensing alcohol
2) they are harder becoz of egg albumin, so they don’t absorb atm moisture as readily as globules, remain intact for long tym

Q

Sublimation definition

A

Process of converting solid substance directly into vapour on heating without converted into liquid state & reconversion of vapour to solid state through condensation having same composition, product is “ sublimate “
Ex : iodine, camphor

17
Q

Methods of dispensing 7
Mother tincture
Liquid potencies
Powdered triturates

A

1) –MT (Q) with purified water
–MT with sugar of milk
2) —-Lq potency medicated globules
—- Lq potency medicated with SL
—- Lqs Dispensed by medicated globules + SL + purified water
3) – powdered triturates dispensed singly
—powdered triturates dispensed in powdered form

18
Q

MT dispensed with purified water

A

MT are dispensed by sufficient amount of water
Should not taken directly which cause burning sensation on tongue
Ex: Avena sativa prescribed for nerve weakness, patients should take medicine after mixing with purified water prescribed by physician

19
Q

MT dispensed with sugar of milk are tincture triturates

A

These are Preparations of SL saturated with MT of desired drug
used for dispensing lower potencies of vegetable kingdom
Ex: azadirachta indica 1X, Ginkgo biloba 1X, Hypericum perforatum 1X

20
Q

Preparation of 1X potency of tincture triturates

A

1) take 10ml desired MT &10gm SL
2) SL & mortar are heated moderately
3) tincture mixed with SL & triturated for one hour
4) menstrum is completely volatilzed & a stable dry substance is obtained
5) it is labelled as 1X with name of drug as tincture triturate

21
Q

Liquid potency dispensed with globules

A

1) fresh non medicated globules are poured in phial filling upto 3/4 part
2) requisite quantity of liquid medicine poured upon globules to moisten them uniformly
3) closed by cork, kept inverted for 8 hrs, excess liquid is drained out
4) label is pasted writing name potency of the medicine
5) medicated globules kept for 24hrs then ready for use

22
Q

Utility of globules 2

A

1) retain their property for 18to20yrs if protected from heat & sunlight, bottle should be opened in places like odourless & free from dust places
2) when Large no.of doses are to be dispensed for frequent & repeated use, globules are more convinient

23
Q

Globules
Precautions : NOT to use dilution having alcohol strength less than 88% or that of dispensing alcohol
#When we should discard globules?

A

1) change in colour to yellow
2) change in taste or odour
3) presence of impurities
4) when they stick to each other or to walls of container ie, they absorb moisture or water, so water content becomes high globules doesn’t stand medication in these cases

24
Q

Liquid potency dispensed with sugar

A

1) no.of drops (1grain, 2grain or 4 grains) of prescribed medicine are poured on measured quantity of SL
2) packed in a paper ✉️ envelope
