Paper 12 Flashcards
Labelling & packing of homoeopathic medicine is in which part?
Write about Rule 106-A
Labelling & packing is in PART - 9 A
# Rule 106-A states that
No homoeopathic medicine shall be imported unless it is packed &labelled in conformity with Rules in part - 9 A
Manner of labelling medicine 5
Following words are printed or written indelible ink & conspicuous manner
a) the word homoeopathic medicine
b) name of medicine
- a/c to name in pharmacopoeias
-name descriptive true nature of drug
c) potency of medicine
d) adress of manufacturer or seller
e) alcohol content mentioned if >30ml
Additional labellings of medicine
1) Batch no - by which substance in the container is taken for manufacture of drug is known, available for inspection
Batch no. (Or) lot no. (Or) lot – prefixes
2) manufacturing license number
Prefixes - Mfg. Lic.No (or) M. L.
Exceptions of labelling
1) Rules of part 9 A are not applicable for homoeopathic mother tinctures manufactured outside, India
2) no ingredient name should not be written on the label
Rule 106 B
No, Homoeopathic medicine containing more than 12% of alcohol v/v shall be packed & sold in packing more than 30 ml bottles
🌱Plant moisture
Definition
Uses
Plant moisture is the juice content in a 🌱 plant
Uses : to know moisture content of vegetable drug substances
# it is noted that tinctures must be of uniform strength.
Strengths vary due to variability of moisture contained in same plant different seasons, conditions of growth, time, storage
Calculation or estimation of plant moisture 5
1) drug substances is chopped by 🔪
2) chopped drug , empty porcelain crucible are weighed
3) drug placed in crucible is kept on water bath, heated 🔥gently until juice of plant evaporates & no further reduction in weight
4) drug is weighed after every 15 min after cooling for 1 min until constant weight is obtained
5) now, compare final wt with chopped drug wt give moisture content
If moisture wt fall below or above from standard wt of formula in pharmacopeia what we should doo?
If falls sufficient quantity of purified water is added to equalise standard wt
# if wt is above the standard wt deduct or remove purified water required to mix with strong alcohol to make it equal with standard formula
Specific gravity definition
Sp.gravity of liquid is the weight of a given volume of liquid at specific temperature compared with wt of given vol of water at same temp
Sp.gr = wt of given vol of liquid
÷
wt of equal vol of water
Determination of sp.gr of liquid by a specific gravity bottle or pyknometer
Procedure :
1) pyknometer is cleaned & dried
2) empty bottle with stopper is weighed after checking balance
3) pyknometer filled with given liquid free from bubbles, stoppered, weighed
4) then pyknometer filled with liquid is poued out & washed with water & then filled with water and weighed
Observations of sp.gr experiment with pyknometer
Calculations?
Specific gravity has no units
Empty pyknometer wt1 = 5 gm
Bottle with liquid w2 = 15gm
Bottle with water w3 = 12gm
Calculations :
Wt of liquid = w2-w1 = 10gm
Wt of water = w3-w1 = 7 gm
Sp.gr = wt of liquid ÷ wt of water
= 10 ÷ 7
Determination of sp.gr of liquid with hydrometer
Experimental liquid is taken into a glass cylinder and hydrometer is slowly inserted into it, seen that upper level of liquid corresponds with mark expressing 0.816
So, sp.gr of liquid is 0.816, it may be strong alcohol
volatile or essential oils characters
1) volatile evaporated easily ,don’t leave permanent grease spot on paper
2) they can be obtained by distillation
3) don’t become rancid but tend to resinify on exposure to light
4) mostly inflammable
5) can’t be saponified & but emulsified
Volatile oils means, examples
Plant often owe characteristic odour to these oils, often spoken as essential oils, obtained from plants from :
1) distillation with steam
2) expression ex: lemon oil
3) extraction
Ex: cinnamon oil, eucalyptus oil, turpentine oil, lavender oil ,etc
Fixed oils means,
examples : castor oil, sesame oil, olive oil, almond oil, cotton seed oil, etc
These oils are mixture of olein, plamitin, stea-rin, with small amount of other bodies
These are found in seeds, occurring within cytoplasm as drops or crystals
# Insoluble in water, sparingly in alcohol, freely in chloroform, ether
