Paper 2 Shits Flashcards
Factors affecting rate of reaction?
- Concentration
- Pressure of reacting GASES
- Surface area
- Temperature
- Presence of catalysts
Pure Substance
Single element or compound not mixed with any other substances
How can we distinguish pure substances
They melt and boil at specific temperatures, so MELTING AND BOILING POINT DATA can be used
Example of a pure substance
Pure milk
What temperatures do impure substances boil at?
They melt and boil over a range of teperatures
How do impurities (such as salt) affect melting and boiling point?
- it DECREASES the melting point
- it INCREASES the boiling point
Formulations
Mixtures that have been prepared USING A SPECIFIC FORMULA, with PRECISE AMOUNTS of different components, which have a PARTICULAR FUNCTION
Examples of Formulations
- Fuels
- Alloys
- Food and drink
- Paint
- Fertilisers
- Medicines
- Cleaning agents
What must be taken into account when working out the RF value?
- Type of paper used
- Type of solvent used
Composition of the Earth’s atmosphere?
- 80% nitrogen
- 20% oxygen
- Small proportions of other gases, CO2, Water vapour, Noble Gases
