pancreas, adrenal, testis, ovaries Flashcards

1
Q

what are the 2 anatomical and fuctional parts of the pancreas that make it distinct

A
  1. The endocrine pancreas manufactures hormones:
    - Insulin is secreted into the blood in response to islet of Langerhans cells
    detecting increased blood glucose
  2. The exocrine pancreas manufactures enzymes & secretes them via a duct
    system into the duodenum

Q

what is the fight or flight response

A
  • fear or serious illness or injury
  • symapathetic nervous system
  • the bodys organs and arterioles react in a self preservation manner
  • the reaction includes stimulation of the adrenal medulla to secrete adrenaline and noradrenaline into the bloodstream
