Antiemetic for reduced gastric motility
Metoclopramide or domperidone
Don’t use metoclopramide in complete bowel obstruction, GI perf or following GI surgery
Antiemetic for chemically mediated N&V
Correct chemical disturbance if possible
Ondansetron (especially for chemo), haloperidol, levomepromazine
Antiemetic for visceral/serosal causes (e.g. constipation, oral candidiasis)
Cyclizine and levomepromazine
Antiemetic for raised intra-cranial pressure
Cyclizine
Dexamethasone
Antiemetic for vestibular causes
Cyclizine
Refractory - metoclopramide, prochlorperazine
Antiemetic for cortical causes (e.g. anxiety, pain, fear, anticipatory nausea)
Anticipatory nausea then short acting benzo e.g. lorazepam
