Pain + Thermo-sensation Flashcards
what is nociceptive?
pin prick sensation
where is nociceptive cell bodies located?
dorsal roots of trigeminal ganglia
what are the 2 types of fibres found?
Alpha delta and C fibers
how many types of alpha delta fibres are there?
2
what is type 1 alpha delta activated by?
heat
what kind of receptors do type 1 alpha delta have?
high threshold mechanoreceptors –> slow sensation
what do alpha delta type 2 fibres respond to?
noxious stimuli - harmful/unpleasant
what is alpha delta type 2 fibres sensitive to?
capsaicin - sensation of burning
what do all c fibres respond to?
all noxious stimuli
what is the function of C-MH?
c fiber - detects mechanical stimuli by being activated by noxious heat
able to locate exact location of stimuli
what is the function of C-M?
mechanical stimuli but insensitive to heat + capsalcin
what is the function of C-H?
sensitive to capsalcin + mediates heat detection but does not contribute to location of stimuli
what is the function of C-MH (silent)?
insensitive to heat or mechanical pain
sensntive to capsalcin + other analgesia
what are the 2 terminals involved in signalling of noiceptors?
central and peripheral terminals
what does the central terminal cause?
hyperalgesia
what is the role of the central terminal?
large role in heat sensitivity
what is the peripheral terminal responsible for?
environmental stimuli
large role in mechanical sensitivity
