PAD/PVD Flashcards
Peripheral vascular disease involve blood vessels (inside/outside) the heart
Outside
Difference between functional PVD and Occlusive PVD
Functional- does not involve defects in blood vessels
Occlusive- structural change in blood vessels (damage)
Is peripheral artery disease (PAD) considered functional or occlusive PVD?
Occlusive
What is the most common form of peripheral vascular disease?
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
What is intermittent claudication?
Aching, cramping, tightness or weakness of the legs
What leads to occlusive PAD?
Atherosclerotic plaques
What is the primary indicator of PAD?
Intermittent claudication
Risk factors for PAD
DASHH
Diabetes
Advanced age
Smoking
Hypertension
Hyperlipidemia
What diagnostic testing is useful to diagnose PAD?
Resting ABI
What is ABI? What are the ranges?
.Ankle Brachial Index- ankle systolic blood pressure / brachial systolic blood pressure
.Non-compressible - > 1.40
Normal - 1.00 –1.40
Borderline - 0.91 –0.99
Abnormal - <0.90
