Pack Ice, Glaciers & Global Warming Flashcards
1
Q
What is pack ice?
A
Pack ice, is the ice floating on the oceans near the North and South Poles
2
Q
What are glaciers ?
A
Glaciers are attached to land and formed by compressed snow. (Freshwater)
3
Q
What are icebergs?
A
Icebergs are the pieces of glaciers that fell into the ocean. (Freshwater)
4
Q
How does global warming affect pack ice/ glaciers?
A
- Pack ice to melts. Causing albedo to decrease, therefore light is kept in the atmosphere, increasing temperatures and causing climate change.
- With more melting ice, it affects the salinity and temperatures between ice and water, which leads to changes in thermohaline circulation.
5
Q
What is albedo?
A
It’s the amount of light bouncing off of ice
