A

a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity

physical health: sleep hygiene, diet, nutrition, shelter

mental: coping mechanisms, support system

social wellbeing: staying connected, participating in community, social circle, feeling like you belong

A

The optimal state of health of individuals and groups.

  1. the realization of an individuals full potential physically, socially, spiritually and economically.
  2. one’s expectations in the family, community and work place fulfilled.

What is a the difference between disease, sickness and illness?

A

D - A pathological process and is biologically defined. Has an etiology which generates physical manifestations which is diagnosed.

S - State of being ill and is a socially defined role

I - An experience of unwell which is subjective to the individual and based on the symptoms the individual is feeling.

A

Theory by Parsons describing the role a person takes when they feel ill.
1. Not responsible for the role
2. must try to get better - temporary phase
3. can not resume normal activities
