What is an output device?
An output device is a peripheral device used to show the results of processing and falls into two main categories: visual and audible.
Give three examples of visual output devices.
- Monitor
- Printers
- Plotters
Give three examples of audible output devices.
- Speakers
- Headphones
- Earphones
What are the two categories that output falls into?
- Soft copy output
2. Hard copy output.
What is softcopy output?
Soft copy output is intangible and temporary. Eg. Document displayed on monitor, sound from a speaker, multimedia projector.
What is hardcopy output?
Hard copy output is tangible and permanent. Eg. A printed document, 3D output, plotter.
What are the three types of Printers?
- Impact
- Non-Impact
- 3D
What is an Impact printer?
This is where the printing mechanism strikes the ribbon and the paper. It is used to print carbonised documents and multiple art forms. (Noisy). Eg. Line, Chain and Drum.
What is a Non-Impact printer?
Where the printing mechanism does not touch the paper or media. ( Quiet). Eg. Inkjet, Laser, Bubble jet.
What are 3D printers?
They create a 3D model, layer by layer by the use of melted plastic. (Takes long).
What are Plotters?
Uses coloured pens or toner to draw an image on paper. Flatbed- hold paper still while pens move. Drum- roll paper over cylinder. Pinch roller- mix of the two.
