What is Cloud Storage?
The storage of data online using multiple remote servers that are hosted by third parties. Eg. Google Drive, Onedrive, iCLoud.
What is Local Storage?
The files and information are stored on the user’s computer hard drive. Does not require internet access.
What is the Security Criteria?
Private data can be compromised if the service you use lacks the right features.
a. Should require password
b. Should be encrypted ( in transit and rest)
c. Service providers are liable for breaches based on contract.
Issues:
- No control over data
- Data leakage
- Snooping/Data Interception
- BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

What is the Storage and Cost Criteria?
Enterprises can avoid the expenses of buying their own storage equipment by using remote storage owned by cloud providers.
What are the types of Storage available?
- Personal: individuals store data and sync it across multiple devices.
- Public: cloud storage provider that fully manages data for an enterprise offsite.
- Private: cloud storage provider works on premises at an organisation’s data centre.
- Hybrid storage: mix of public and private cloud storage.
What is the Accessibility Criteria?
Users can access data stored on the cloud from anywhere with internet access, from many different types of devices.
A. Multiple users have access to virtual servers concurrently.
B. Both authorised and unauthorised individuals may have access to data if not adequately secured.
