What is otosclerosis?
A
The replacement of normal bone by vascular spongy bone.

What kind of deafness does it cause?
A
Conductive deafness (progressive)
The stapes becaomes fixed at the oval window.

Autosomal dominant

At what age is the onset of otosclerosis?
A
20-40 years

What are some features of otosclerosis?
A
- Conductive deafness
- Tinnitus
- Normal tympanic membrane
- Positive family history

How is it managed?
A
Hearing aids or Stapedectomy

10% will have a funny coloured tympanic membrane. What colour is it descrbed as and why do they get it?
A
Flamingo tinged tympanic membrane due to hyperaemia.
(Increased blood flow to the TM)
