What are nasal polyps associated with?

A
  • Asthma* (particularly late-onset asthma)
  • Aspirin sensitivity*
  • Infective sinusitis
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Kartagener’s syndrome
  • Churg-Strauss syndrome

NOTE: Samter’s triad = aspirin sensitivity+asthma+ nasal polyps

What is the management pathway for nasal polyps?

A
  1. Topical corticosteroids shrink polyps in 80% of patients.
  2. All should be referred to ENT for a full examination.
  3. Unilateral symptoms or bleeding should warrant further investigation.
